Trai Spikes

Firstly, thanks for visiting my website! Breifly, I'm a guy who loves learning and putting my knowledge to good use. I am also an avid Biologist who studies animal behavior. I work to make the world a better place by promoting diversity and inclusion. I also have a variety of hobbies most of them on the nerdy side.

I am a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Oklahoma. I work with livebearing fishes to answer questions related to sexual selection and ecology. Currently, I am focused on understanding the evolution of mate preferences in Limia, a group of livebearing fishes endemic to the Caribbean.

In addition to my research, I pride myself on being an activist for underrepresented and marginalized people. I spend much of my time working with university leaders in combatting institutionalized racism.

When we think of mate preference, we often think of choosy females and competitive males. However, what happens when females and males are choosy? What factors favor male mate preference to evolve? Here I use behavioral analyses to compare male preference of three Limia species.
